Building an app with AI got cheap. Getting it in front of your coworkers didn't. Garrett Galow from the WorkOS product team shows how WorkOS lets anyone at the company build and ship internal apps. It started when an account executive built a helpful sales chatbot before her leave, and the CEO couldn't even open it. Building got cheap with AI, but deploying, securing and sharing apps still needed engineers. So WorkOS built two things: WOW, a CLI pushed to every laptop that sets up the repo, tools and template in one command, and Atlas, the platform underneath, which keeps infrastructure invisible, makes every app secure by default behind company SSO, and makes every app discoverable. He demos it live and shares results: 278 apps, more than 3 million requests a week, and 37% of regularly used apps built with no engineer in a single commit. In this talk: • Why shipping, not building, is now the bottleneck for internal tools • Claude days: pairing non-engineers at the keyboard with engineers as coaches • A one-command CLI and a platform that's invisible, secure and discoverable • Results: hundreds of apps, millions of requests, many built without engineers SPEAKER Garrett Galow, Product Manager, WorkOS LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/garrett-galow X: https://x.com/g2theg GitHub: https://github.com/garrettgalow Website: https://garrettgalow.com LINKS WorkOS: https://workos.com The person with the problem builds the tool (WorkOS blog): https://workos.com/blog/person-with-the-problem-builds-the-tool WorkOS on X: https://x.com/workos CHAPTERS 0:00 Intro 0:32 Letting everyone ship 1:02 Story: Perona GPT 1:42 The CEO couldn't open it 2:27 Building got cheap.
