Thinking about quitting software testing? I have been in this field for more than twenty years, and this is my honest, unscripted take on why now is the wrong time to walk away. No slides, no script, just me talking to you about what I am seeing right now. More code is being written than ever, a lot of it by AI, and there are fewer testers around to check it. When I ask an AI tool a simple question and look at what comes back, it is obvious that not enough testing is happening on AI-related work. If developers are using those same tools to build software, the quality going in and the quality coming out are both a problem, and that problem is getting bigger, not smaller. As a former director and vice president of testing, I know what it is like to ask for more people and get told no. That is the reality most of us are working in. It means we have to use AI to get the work done, and it means somebody with real testing expertise has to be there to tell the tool when a test plan does not make sense or a test case is bad. What I talk about in this video: Why more code and fewer testers makes software quality worse, not better What AI slop tells us about how little testing AI projects are getting Why testers are being asked to use AI, and why that still requires a human expert What staying committed to a testing career looks like right now The opportunities that open up for testers who learn the AI tools I really want to hear from you on this one. Have you been in testing a while? Are you thinking about leaving? Tell me where you are at in the comments, because I read every one and they shape what I make next.
