Create an API Automation Framework from Scratch Using GitHub Copilot Agent
In this video, we'll explore how to use the GitHub Copilot AI Agent to create an API automation framework from scratch using Playwright Test and TypeScript. Instead of creating every folder and file manually, we'll provide an API specification to the AI agent and see how it can analyze the API, design the framework, generate the required files, implement API tests, execute them, and create documentation. In this practical demonstration, we'll use the Swagger Petstore demo API and explore how an AI agent can help with the following activities: ✅ Analyze API endpoints and specifications ✅ Create the project folder structure ✅ Configure Playwright Test and TypeScript ✅ Build reusable API clients and service components ✅ Implement API tests and assertions ✅ Work with test data, fixtures, and configuration ✅ Execute tests and investigate failures ✅ Generate HTML reports and framework documentation ✅ Set up a GitHub Actions workflow IMPORTANT: AI can help us build our framework faster, but understanding API testing fundamentals is essential. You should know HTTP methods, status codes, request and response bodies, headers, authentication, authorization, and how to write assertions. If you haven't learned API testing with Playwright yet, check out my Playwright API Testing series on this channel before trying this approach. Use AI as a productivity tool, but understand the code it generates and learn how to troubleshoot problems independently.
