AI Test Engineer

An AI Test Engineer specializes in testing AI and machine learning systems — evaluating model outputs for accuracy and safety, building golden datasets, and probing for hallucinations, bias, and prompt injection — combining traditional QA rigor with the newer skills AI systems specifically demand.

The role sits at the intersection of two disciplines: solid testing fundamentals (test design, risk assessment, regression thinking) applied to a genuinely different kind of system, one whose outputs are probabilistic and often subjective rather than deterministic and exactly checkable against a fixed expected value.

Day to day work looks less like clicking through a UI and more like building evaluation harnesses, curating golden datasets, writing LLM-as-a-judge rubrics, and running adversarial probes against guardrails — a newer specialization most testing organizations are still actively figuring out how to structure and staff.
