Jira
Jira is Atlassian's widely used issue and project tracking tool, commonly used by QA teams to log and track defects, manage testing tasks, and link bugs directly to the user stories or requirements they affect — the de facto standard bug tracker at a large share of software companies.
For testing specifically, Jira typically serves as the defect lifecycle's home — bugs move through configurable workflow states (Open, In Progress, Fixed, Verified, Closed) with full history, comments, and attachments, and link directly to the stories or epics they relate to for traceability.
Dedicated test management tools (TestRail, Zephyr, Xray) frequently integrate directly with Jira rather than replacing it — Jira remains the system of record for defects and work tracking, while the specialized tool handles the more detailed test case management, execution tracking, and requirements traceability Jira alone isn't purpose-built for.
