Test Lead
A Test Lead coordinates the testing effort for a specific project or team — assigning test cases, tracking progress, reviewing test plans, and serving as the primary point of contact for testing status — a hands-on leadership role that typically still involves some direct testing work alongside coordination duties.
The Test Lead role usually sits between an individual contributor tester and a QA Manager — leading day-to-day testing coordination for a specific project or sprint, while a QA Manager operates at a broader, more strategic level across multiple teams or the whole organization.
Typical responsibilities include reviewing and approving test plans, distributing test case work across the team, tracking test execution and defect status, and communicating testing progress and risk to project stakeholders — a blend of technical testing knowledge and the organizational skill to keep a testing effort on track and clearly communicated.
